Description

Architectural Precision Meets Contemporary Concrete Design

Suncrete Pty Ltd is proud to have contributed to Flyover / Gallery for a Tree at Marcellin College, an architecturally distinctive development that brings together contemporary concrete design, natural surroundings and thoughtful architectural detailing.

Designed by Farrell Wray Architects and delivered by MDC Building Group, the 91 m² elevated gallery and walkway connects the college's senior and junior schools while carefully wrapping around a significant existing gum tree.

Inspired by the architectural character of St Marcellin Champagnat's Hermitage in France, the structure incorporates exposed concrete, curved walls and arches, creating a refined architectural composition.

Our Contribution

Suncrete was engaged to design, manufacture and supply custom GRC/GFRC sunshade panels, developed to complement the project's distinctive architectural language.

A key aspect of our work was achieving a Tadao Ando-inspired exposed concrete finish, characterised by its smooth surface, understated natural grey tones and refined architectural appearance.

The panels required careful attention to mould preparation, surface consistency, dimensional accuracy and finishing to achieve the desired visual quality.

Our manufacturing approach focused on delivering architectural elements that integrate with the surrounding concrete construction while maintaining the design intent.

Delivering Architectural Quality Through GRC

The project demonstrates the versatility of Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete in applications where architectural appearance, detailed geometry and material consistency are essential.

Through custom manufacturing and specialised finishing techniques, Suncrete delivered prefabricated GRC sunshade elements that complement the project's exposed concrete aesthetic.

A Recognised Architectural Project

The Flyover / Gallery for a Tree has been featured on ArchDaily, recognising its distinctive architectural approach and integration with the surrounding landscape.

Suncrete is pleased to have collaborated with MDC Building Group and contributed its specialist GRC manufacturing expertise to this unique educational development.
